Background
In the light of global environmental
issues such as global warming, air pollution and excessive material waste, the sustainable renovation consultancy assists homeowners to tackle the problems themselves.
Philip Smith
BA (Hons) MSc (Hons) MRICS, is a chartered building surveyor and qualified
teacher with a special interest in sustainability in building
design and construction, with a focus on historic buildings. With the assistance
of some key advisors, I closely follow new develoments in products
for improve sustainability and energy efficiency in the home.
Phil's goal is to help people to respond pro-actively
as individuals to the scientists' reports of human-induced climate
change and other environmental issues. He believes we should tackle global warming at a grass roots
level by minimising our carbon footprint and trying harder to live
sustainably, and live in harmony with nature. The SRC project will
assist homeowners to reduce the carbon emissions created by their
homes (as well as their fuel bills) by advising on how to make their
homes more energy efficient, and on more sustainable building practice
and materials. We have a common sense approach to reducing waste,
especially with regard to energy conservation. This goes hand in
hand with cost saving. SRC facilitates renovation work that will
achieve this. SRC seeks to make the most of whatever sources of
private and public funding are available, and do whatever we can
ourselves.
Phil has a background in building surveying, sustainability,
teaching and modern languages. He studied an MSc Surveying course
and specialised in sustainable renovation of Victorian houses, the
so-called "hard-to-treat" houses, notably those in conservation
areas where it is harder to gain planning permission for some renovation
work, gaining experience in refurbishment of historic buildings
and eventually getting RICS chartered status.
Phil will also offer presentations and interactive
seminars for businesses, schools and other establishments. With
Phil's previous long-standing background in teaching, he was in
a strong position to present the key principles of sustainability,
sustainable building and sustainable living.
With his background in modern languages and having
grown up in London, Phil is well-suited to assisting people from
overseas with a range of projects and services.
