Reducing your home's carbon impact
Simple "first fix" measures to improve
energy efficiency and sustainability comprise reducing heat loss,
therefore, reducing your fuel consumption, as well as efficiency
improvements to lighting and other internal features. SRC advises
some simple checks or measures that should be carried out before
anything too fancy is done. Once the thermal envelope of your building
is sealable, whilst adequately ventillated, the next step is to
improve the thermal resistance of that envelope by installing warmer
insulation and windows. You have thus reduced your fuel needs as
far as economically possible. When your home's thermal envelope
is adequately sealed and ventillated, you might consider generating
more energy internally and finally, how to improve the sustainability
and ecological impact of your internal fittings and furniture, reducing
waste by sourcing products and materials from sustainable sources.
